How do I rent an Accessible Vehicle?

This process is quite easy, just contact Wheelchair In Motion either through our web site at www.wheelchairinmotion.com or by phone at 1-888-776-1102. Once the reservation is received, a member of the Wheelchair In Motion team will contact you by phone, to confirm the reservation and take down the necessary information. A Valid Credit Card is required to secure the reservation at the time of booking.

What areas do you serve?

We serve most areas in South and Eastern Ontario. Service is available west to London, north to Barrie and east to Kingston. (Delivery fees may apply) We are now offering rentals in the Ottawa area.

What is your Cancellation Policy?

You may cancel your reservation at any time.

During our peak season*, reservations cancelled 7 calendar days or less prior to the first day of the reservation will be subject to a cancellation fee equal to our single day rental fee.  Reservations cancelled 48 hours or less prior to the first day of the reservation will be subject to a cancellation fee equal to 2 single day rental fees.

During our off season**, you can cancel your reservation up to 24 hours prior to the first day of the reservation and there will be no charge.  Reservations cancelled with less than 24 hour notice will be subject to a cancellation fee equal to our single day rental fee.

Cancellation fees will be charged against the valid credit card used to secure your reservation.

*Peak season is May 1 to Oct 15, plus Dec 20 to Jan 2 and Good Friday to Easter Monday.

**Off season is Oct 16 to April 30, excluding Dec 20 to Jan 2 and Good Friday to Easter Monday.

 

Can you deliver and pick up the Rental Vehicle?

Yes.  In most cases, Wheelchair In Motion can arrange delivery and pick up of our vehicles.  Delivery fees are based on distances.

Do your Rental Vehicles have hand controls?

At present Wheelchair In Motion does not rent vehicles equipped with hand controls.

How old do the drivers have to be?

All licenced drivers must be over 23 years of age and have a full Drivers Licence.

Do I need to buy extra Insurance?

Wheelchair In Motions’ vehicles are fully insured with the mandatory Ontario automobile insurance. However the renter is responsible for any damage caused to the vehicle while they are renting. This responsibility can be transferred, in most cases to an existing auto policy (if applicable) or a Visa, MasterCard or American Express credit card that carries Auto Rental Insurance Coverage.
Wheelchair in Motion does not sell additional insurance, however we can suggest some web site contacts if you wish.

Is there a charge for Mileage?

Our rentals come with 200 free kilometres per day. Excess mileage is charged at a rate of $0.15 per kilometre.

How many Wheelchairs can fit in the Rental Vehicle?

Our Dodge Grand Caravans’ can accommodate up to two (2) wheelchairs at one time with the front passengers seat removed. The MV-1 Can accommodate 1 wheelchair.

How many passengers can the Rental Vehicle hold?

Our Dodge Grand Caravan can hold up to five (5) passengers, including the driver in addition to the Wheelchair occupant. There are different seating configurations, so the total available seating may change. The MV-1 can accommodate 4 passengers including the driver in addition to the wheelchair occupant.

How is the Wheelchair secured inside the Rental Vehicle?

We use a “QStraint” system to secure the wheelchair. This is a four point locking  system. There is both manual and automatic QStraints in the vehicle.

Do you show me how to use the “QStraints”?

Yes. A Wheelchair In Motion team member will show how the tie-downs work and the additional safety equipment in the Rental Vehicle. This procedure is also written down and a copy of the operation is in the Rental Vehicles’ information folder.

Does the Rental Vehicle have an Accessible Parking Permit?

Yes, most of our vehicles have an accessible parking permit which allows you to park in designated accessible parking areas when you have a passenger that requires access to these areas.

Can I list more than one driver?

Yes. All licenced drivers can be recorded on the Rental Agreement.

Can your vehicles go out of Province/Country?

Yes, as long as we are aware of this and you have proper insurance coverage to do so.

Is there a charge for extra drivers?

No. There is no charge for additional drivers
