What are your vacation plans?  According to an article by MoneySense, more than half of Canadians are planning to stay home on their vacation this summer.  With so many Canada 150 events happening right now, it’s a great time to be a tourist at home and rediscover the natural beauty, history, arts and culture in Ontario.  Here are some ideas to check out on your staycation.

The Museums Ontario directory can help you find a museum that piques your interest (aviation, clocks, shoes, wax rock-n-roll legends).  Plan a day and visit a few.  THEMUSEUM in Kitchener is an art-science-culture-technology museum where visitors have an interactive play experience.  They have three Canada 150-themed presentations.  Nearby, but centuries apart, at the Ingersoll Cheese and Agricultural Museum visitors step back into the 19th century.  Call ahead for information about accessibility details.  Most large buildings – the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa, the Royal Ontario Museum, and the Ontario Science Centre for example – have full accessibility for persons with disabilities.

If you want to see the world on your staycation, a visit to an art gallery will fulfill your wanderlust.

The National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, and the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, feature collections from European masters and artists from Asia, Africa and North America.  The McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinburg is home to an extensive Group of Seven gallery, and Canadian and Indigenous art.  Don’t forget, Parks Canada is offering free admission in 2017 at all locations including National Historic Sites.

Who needs to travel abroad when there is so much to see here?  When was the last time you took a day trip, visited an art gallery or a museum?  Wheelchair in Motion’s accessible transportation rentals are available daily, for weekends and more.  With van rentals available in most areas of Ontario including Kitchener and Ottawa, we’re here to assist with your accessible transportation needs. Contact us if you have any questions about accessible transportation, van rentals.  Enjoy your staycation!
